Astralintu joins the “Net Zero Space” initiative during the 2022 Paris Peace Forum

Paris, France, 11-12 November 2022 - Astralintu Space Technologies becomes the first Latin American company to be part of the “Net Zero Space” initiative created by the Paris Peace Forum.

The Net Zero Space initiative was introduced in November 2021 on the occasion of the 4th edition of the Paris Peace Forum. In order to establish the goal, various space players such as satellite operators, launchers, space agencies, academics, and members of civil society—came together to call for the sustainable use of space by 2030 by taking decisive action to address the urgent problem of reducing debris orbiting the Earth for the benefit of all humankind.

By becoming the first and only Latin American company part of the initiative, Astralintu moves closer to fulfilling its ambition to offer sustainable space logistics and ground segment operations to the Latin American market.

As part of the company's commitment to the initiative, Matias Campos, CEO of Astralintu Space Technologies, was invited to speak at the panel "Tackling the Space Debris Emergency" at this year’s Paris Peace Forum. In this panel, Matias pledged live in front of the audience, the commitment of Astralintu to join this initiative and discussed the specific examples and actions the company has taken—or intends to take—in line with the scope of its operations to further the goal of "Net Zero Space."

Matias highlighted the role of Astralintu’s Green Team in working towards making Astralintu the first Carbon Neutral Space company in Latin America and the publication of a research paper presented at the International Astronautical Congress (IAC2022) that measures the carbon footprint of a satellite per Unit being launched to space. Astralintu hopes this paper allows space companies to be more aware of their carbon emissions on Earth.

Astralintu Space Technologies’ CEO, Matías Campos, outlining the company's sustainability-related objectives and commitment at the main stage of the 2022 Paris Peace Forum.

Addressing sustainability and carbon neutrality at the core of its activities, Matias said: “Since the beginning, we have strived for our operations to be consistent and coherent with our values as a company. Everything we do is connected to the premise of being sustainable on earth while fostering sustainability in space.” In this line, Astralintu is a proud member of the UN Global pact and the Ecuadorian government’s Carbon Neutral Program.

Finally, Matías addressed former and new members inviting them to continue the great work in making space sustainable, but not forgetting about sustainability on Earth.

“We need sustainability in Space to incentive Sustainability on Earth, and Sustainability on Earth to ensure Sustainability in Space, let us all work together to connect that circle”

About the Paris Peace Forum

The Paris Peace Forum is an annual worldwide gathering launched in 2018 by French President Emmanuel Macron to promote collective action on today’s most pressing global issues. The first Forum brought together leaders from the political, corporate, and civil society sectors as well as 65 Heads of State, all of whom were committed to reiterating the fundamental message.

The Forum was created as a response to escalating tensions and the failings of the multilateral system, and it is based on the straightforward notion that finding cooperative solutions to global issues is essential to achieving lasting peace. The revival and enhancement of global governance are currently the main objectives of the Paris Peace Forum.
